If you haven't been living under a rock for the past couple of years, you must have heard of Dancing With the Stars. More than ever, people are wanting to learn how to dance now that they see not only how cool it is, but how knowing how to dance can get you lots of great looking men or women, depending on just what it is you're after. There are countless ways to learn to dance, but before you get started, this article will answer some of the questions you have about dancing.

Dancing can be broken down into two parts. The first is technical and the other is physical. We will address the technical part first in this article.

The technical part of dancing isn't difficult. All dances can be boiled down to series of steps, and the number and order of those steps will vary according to the dance you are performing.  Most dances have a four step pattern, while waltzes are composed of a one, two, three step. These steps can be any one of a variety of steps, front, back, side to side, and so on. Each dance has its own sequence and variations. That's why when you see somebody dancing, say a samba, no two people dance it the same way.  So to sum up, all it takes to master the technical part is a bit of coordination and practice of the steps.

The second part of dancing, the physical one, is a bit more challenging. What may look like a simple dance step technically, can be physically draining. Take for instance a dance performed by the Highland Dancers; the Sailor's Hornpipe looks easy, but the physical demands to perform it are incredible. Broadway shows also feature dances that look fairly easy technically, but are only for those in good shape. However, if you're interested in just typical ballroom dancing, for the most part, you don't have to be in magnificent shape.

That has to be one of the nicest parts of learning to dance. As you learn how to dance, and your technical ability grows, you will get into better and better shape as you progress.. Just look at the slim, toned bodies of professional dancers. Need I say more? Not only is learning to dance rewarding in itself, it's one of the best exercises that you can get. Not like those boring exercises that you've been doing at home on your treadmill or whatever.
